What is Ozone?

Ozone is another form of oxygen. When oxygen is exposed to ultraviolet light or a corona-like spark, the normal two oxygen atoms temporarily reform in a three atom (trivalent) molecule. This formation is an active form of oxygen that will oxidize other pollutants and will revert back to normal, breathable O2 oxygen in a short amount of time.

Ozone is also created electrically in nature during active thunderstorms. The electrical discharge, just like the UV light creates ozone often referred to as "activated oxygen" which gives that sweet smell we understand as clean fresh air.

Ozone is safe to use and has many applications such as air purification, water purification, deodorization and food sanitation. This substance is also a very effective antibacterial, germicidal and fungicidal agent.

Is Ozone Safe?

Ozone occurs naturally in the atmosphere and serves several very important functions in our everyday existence here on earth. Just like anything in excess ozone in exceptionally high doses may affect an individual with pre-existing respiratory conditions if exposed to it at a high level for a long period of time. The fully portable SCENTLOK ENFORCERâ„¢ has the individuals health and safety in mind with significantly reduced and safe levels of ozone output.

Ozone is known as a friendly oxidizer, due to the fact that it reverts back to oxygen after oxidation occurs. Even though the SCENTLOK ENFORCERâ„¢ levels are safe, an additional safety measure was added. The option of 1 hour and 3 hour pre-set timers was implemented to limit exposure and ensure that not only is bacteria eradicated but the amount of ozone generated is safe for individuals and pets.

How Does Ozone Eliminate Odors?

While in the ozone state, the oxygen atoms will rapidly oxidize (burn up) pollutants at the molecular level. This means, once ozone has done its job, the odor problem is permanently gone. Unlike fragrances that try to cover or mask odors, ozone literally destroys odors at there source.

Will Ozone Kill Mold?

Yes, ozone will kill mold, and it damaged mold spores so they cannot reproduce. Mold will always return if the water source that feeds the mold is not solved. Ozone is not a mold remediation solution. It is a tool used as a part of a mold remediation service.

Will Ozone Kill Virus, Bacteria, & Fungi?

It has been well documented that ozone will kill virus, bacteria, and fungi. Ozone has been used to sanitize surgery room, purify municipal water supplies, to kill bacteria in food processing plants, to treat pools instead of chlorine, and to treat buildings where disease is rampant. Ozonated water has been shown to kill bacteria in four seconds, and is said to be 3000 times more effective than chlorine products. Yet, there is no chemicals introduced or chemical residue.
