The life cycle of ozone consists of creation, oxidation and reversion to oxygen.  The half life of ozone is about 30 minutes.  As a very unstable gas the third oxygen atom wants to break away soon after formation.  It actively seeks out and destroys polluting organic molecules of a chemical or biological nature by oxidizing them.  The oxidation process involves releasing the 3rd Oxygen atom on the offending pollutant and it then reverts to Oxygen (2).  The 3rd Oxygen atom that is released will attach, oxidize and eliminate pollutants, including bacteria, viruses, fungi and molds.  This process effectively deodorizes, disinfects, and destroys pollutants.  Ozone is classified as an “oxidant” or substance that converts organic material into their base compounds.  Oxidants can be put to work as a sanitizer and disinfection agent or simply to break down organic substances.  As a powerful oxidizer, it is a very effective disinfecting agent that attacks germs, viruses, bacteria, molds and yeasts.

After oxidizing substances, Ozone (03) then simply reverts to Oxygen (02).  The target substances are broken down into their base components.  Ozone works for applications in water including water treatment, swimming pools, hot tubs, process water, commercial and home laundry systems and more.  In air Ozone works for odor control, scrubbing or pollution control.
